Simbol odprte posodice se po Zakonu o kozmetičnih proizvodih (Uradni list RS št.110/03 in 47/04) uporablja za označevanje roka trajanja kozmetičnih izdelkov, kadar je rok uporabnosti več kot 30 mesecev. V ali ob posodici je vpisan rok trajanja, ki začne teči z dnem, ko odpremo prvotno zapakirano embalažo. Vpisana ali dopisana številka in črka “m” pomeni število mesecev uporabnosti izdelka po odprtju pakiranja.

Simbol knjige se uporablja kadar zaradi praktičnih razlogov (kot npr. velikost ali oblika embalaže, način pakiranja in podobno) varnostnih opozoril ni mogoče navesti na notranji in/ali zunanji embalaži, morajo biti navedena na priloženem oziroma pritrjenem listku, etiketi, traku oziroma na kartici. Vsaj na zunanji embalaži kozmetičnega proizvoda mora biti v tem primeru navedeno skrajšano opozorilo ali grafični simbol – simbol knjige.

Simbol minimalni rok trajanja na embalaži kozmetičnega izdelka pomeni datum do katerega kozmetični izdelek, shranjen pod ustreznimi pogoji, ohrani svojo prvotno funkcijo in zlasti ostane varen za zdravje ljudi. Ob simbolu ali napisu „uporabno najmanj do konca“ je naveden datum ali podrobnosti o tem, kje na embalaži kozmetičnega izdelka je datum naveden. Minimalni rok trajanja je sestavljen iz meseca in leta ali dneva, meseca in leta.
